Around & About @ The Ley

We are extremely fortunate to be located in such a beautiful part of Devon, conveniently close to Exeter and surrounded by many interesting places to explore and activities to enjoy. Please find here just a few we think you would find of interest and after a busy day of sightseeing or shopping what better place to rest your laurels than the Ley Arms.

Killerton House - Visit Killerton House, built in 1778–9, bringing to life generations of the Aclands, one of Devon's oldest families. 'Dressing up, dressing down', this year's historic fashion exhibition, explores the numerous changes of dress required daily. The gem of Killerton, beautiful year round, is the garden created by John Veitch – with rhododendrons, magnolias and rare trees surrounded by rolling Devon countryside.

Powderham Castle - The Castle stands in a magnificent deer park on the banks of the River Exe and is a fine example of a home that has been altered through the ages to suit the convenience of the family of the time, but the essential structure of the 1392 building remains, providing a series of majestic rooms, a handsome haven for the contents assembled by the family over the centuries. Visitors can take a 35 minute safari round the Deer Park with its 600 fallow deer, visit the Courtenay Fort a great place for children in the Secret Garden, including the zip slide, a new attraction for 2009 enabling a hasty exit should the Fort be attacked!

Crealy Adventure Park - Only 6 miles from the Ley Arms and a great day out for all the family, Devon’s No1 day out. Woodlands Wilderness Wildlife Adventure Area. An interactive visitor attraction, with tree houses, woodland pathways and even grufflegoats. Fantastic rides, animals and entertainment, something for everyone.

Westpoint Exhibition Center - Just 6 miles from the Ley Arms and home to many exhibitions, shows, concerts and fairs including the Devon County Show. Visit the Ley Arms before or after and enjoy a tasty meal and refreshing drink.

Castle Drogo -  The castle harks back to a romantic past, while its brilliant design heralds the modern era. Behind the imposing façade, poignant family keepsakes sit alongside 17th-century tapestries. The dramatic Dartmoor setting can be appreciated from the delightful formal garden and walks into a rhododendron valley.
